I love this fountain. It’s located in the Lyndale Gardens which are adjacent to the Rose Garden at Lake Harriet. Again, I’m recommending you bike or walk there. Park your car near the bandshell at Lake Harriet. Then, take the short walk, or bike ride to the Rose Garden.
Walk through the Rose Garden to the connecting Lyndale Garden.
You can’t miss this fountain with its bronze turtles. The fountain was originally located in downtown Minneapolis at the center of the Gateway Park area. During the depression the park became a place for the unemployed and homeless to gather. The city eventually drained it to stop people bathing and drinking from it. Then in 1963, it was relocated to the Lyndale Gardens. I’ve highlighted this fountain because it’s my favorite. But really, this whole area is a lovely place to visit with the Rose Garden, the bird sanctuary, the Japanese garden along with the amazing Hefflefinger Fountain, that is sadly closed at the moment. After biking or walking back to your car you can stop at The Bread & Pickle, located at the bandshell for a sandwich, a glass of wine or beer and maybe an ice cream. An alternative would be Broders Pasta Bar located on Penn and 50th, it’s never a bad decision.
